EUSOG Awards

After every EUSOG show, there are 6 physical awards handed out to members of the show team at the after-party, and 1 nominational award. Here’s the history of the awards!

The Halberd

The Halberd came from the 1996 production of ‘The Yeoman of the Guard’. One chorus member was so eager with their dancing, that the top of the halberd flew off its handle.

As such, this award is given to 'the most enthusiastic ensemble member'.

The Saloon Door

The Saloon Door comes from Curtains! in 2022, where it proved exceptionally unwieldy to set up and use, despite the set designer’s many attempt to rectify.

As such, this award is given to ‘the best backstage or technical debut’ for EUSOG.

The Hen

The Hen comes from the 2019 production of ‘Into The Woods’. During the performance, the hen spent most of the time falling off the top of the set where it was supposed to stay.

As such, this award is given to ‘the biggest muck-up on stage’.

The Weapon

The Weapon comes from the 2017 production of Oliver! where is was the murder weapon and has since been soldered with the names of various social media platforms.

As such, this award is given for doing ‘the most publicity posts'.

The Shield

The Shield is the original EUSOG award, having been around since the 1990s at least, and was engraved with the winner’s names, until the shield ran out of space.

This award is for the person who has ‘gone above and beyond to help the show’.

The Paterson Cup

The Paterson Cup is the newest award, having been the trophy from the 2024 production of Spelling Bee, named after Emily Paterson, one of the great EUSOG MDs in her final show.

As such, this award is for the band's ‘most valuable player’.

The Churn

At each after-party, each member of the show fills in the name of the person who has made being in the show particularly enjoyable into a form, and the winner is the person with the most votes. Everyone then puts a bit of their drink into a container, which the winner drinks (or the runner-up if the winner would prefer not to do so).
